History / Biographical
The Pride and Remembrance Association was founded in 1996 and is responsible for the organization of the annual Pride and Remembrance Run held during Toronto’s pride festival. The association is a not for profit, volunteer run organization that is dedicated to supporting the city’s LGBTQ+ community. Money raised by the association’s annual run fundraiser is donated to the chosen beneficiaries of that year. The association “aims to provide an inclusive, diverse and welcoming environment that allows everyone to achieve their own goals and enable us to provide funding for our chosen beneficiaries that are focused on providing youth, health/wellness and cultural support services to the LGBTQ+ community” (priderun.org).
Scope and Content
The fonds contains records related to the Pride and Remembrance Association and its annual pride run. The fonds has been divided into 9 series. Textual records include internal documents, correspondence, financial records, meeting materials, materials from community groups, press releases, news clippings, and event day items including permits and applications, volunteer lists, and participant lists. Other items in the fonds includes, photographs of the run, posters promoting the run, news coverage and video footage of the run, artifacts from the event day, and digitized copies of the photographs and moving images.
Access Restrictions
Most of the materials in the fonds is restricted. All memos, notes, and correspondence is closed. Contact information for individuals is not to be reproduced.
Conservation
Staples and metal paperclips were removed from materials. All photographs were removed from plastic album sleeves.
Arrangement
Original order of the records was maintained where possible. There were two boxes of materials where no files or order was discernable, the records were arranged by the archivist in a way that was most similar to how the other files in the fonds were organized. The fonds was organized into 9 series:
